Last night one of my friend labeled me as a racial supremacist after we talked about racism over the dinner. Through out the discussion, i keep reminded my self not to be in the position for my fellow Malays to think that i am "ungrateful" or never gratify of what had bought me so far, while my Chinese buddy would say "Shut up and enjoy these 'privileges' ".
The fact that i am Malay and was raised up in the occasion of NEP still does not warrant me to say, "Yes, it is appropriate and valid". The NEP was introduced in the ticket of balancing the economy while ethnic Chinese voraciously monopolize it, back to 1960s. The question of it validation and whether 30 % of ethnic Malays already accomplished the target sensationally can only be answered by those with the exact figures. Yet, the fact is, I cant accept when someone claimed the introduction of GLC's to help ethnic Malays to achieved 30% of economy shares being denied as part of Malay's achievement in the NEP. Reason being, simple. what is the main objectives of constructing these GLCs. Mainly to help Malays to gain the 30% quota. Some more, you don't take other ethnics to lead even one of these GLC's! No wonder public said, yes, that is the child of NEP and it belong to Malays.
The fact is I cannot just nodding my head when my fellow Malays with just enough distinction being offered a place in public university while my flying colours's ethnic Indian and Chinese friends have to struggle for the same place. The fact is, we all study in the same education system, talked same language, sat the same examination, answered the same question and the only different is, we didn't score but they did. Then we got offer but they didn't. Why? Colors! Faith! Who came first! This is Malaysia, you see the word " Malay"? That is why!
The fact that i am strongly believed in merit system licensed me to claim that we are Malays are strong enough to rival other ethnics to achieved what we should be achieving. I strongly believe on the ability of my fellow brothers to stand as tall as ethnic Chinese. But at same time, I felt pity to them who does not realized what they have and failed to take advantage of it. The fact that I cant accept nation development being stopped due to old policy that favors certain race.
The fact is, I cant accept when someone claimed we are just an" apple" to compete with "grapes". How come he claimed do not compare us directly with Singapore and Hong Kong because they are places with single-ethnic populations . After years of multiculturalism and cultural assimilation, why cant we become ONE, one single identity; that is we are all MALAYSIAN. Let all be same - single ethnic population.
The fact that I cant accept when someone claimed they (Singapore and HK) are grapes - small but sweet. Base product of many high value items such as wine, grape seed oil.. . As Malaysia, we are apples - large and tasty. Base product of low value items such as apple pie, apple juice.. . I cant accept that! Come on Dato Sri, We don't wanna be an Apple. An apple that is rotten at the core isn't much of a fruit... so please stop saying that. and please in the future, please do not choose a country that is ranked below us to compare with! Please don't try an orange the next time?
