I havent talked about politics for quite long time. Partly because I was so fed up on how ugly our locals politic landscape. When we discuss about politic in Malaysia, we cannot run away from the fact of our treatment on social contract. I believe most Malaysians are not questioning what is in the Constitution, as we also believe that our founding fathers had good in mind for all. It is the subsequent translation, interpretation, implementation, practice, and policies that arose out of the 50 years of unchallenged UMNO/BN rule that put us in such a situation as today. After half a century, we are still unable to accept the good intentions of our founding fathers, then how can we move on as a nation, a brotherhood of common bonds?
Think again, fellow Malaysians, especially our Malay brothers who still feel so insecure, would our founding fathers wish upon us - their future generations - peace, prosperity, and progress or would they want us to remain disunited, forever fighting for what little there is, and unable to mature as a nation.
It is time we see a spade for a spade. If our nation is a person, then we are a psychologically challenged adolescent unable to get past the fact that he is no longer cute and cuddly, constantly being showered with toys and goodies. He is unable to accept the fact that he has now got to learn to stand on his own two feet and learn to compete against the others in the neighborhood. Once the adolescent move on adulthood, age is of no consequences. He cannot compete and say he is still young so must be accorded privileges. As a nation, whether young or mature, we all compete in this ever-shrinking global platform. Just because we are just a 51 year old, doesn't mean we cannot compete against the 950 year old British, or the 232 year old United States. If America was to think and behave like this, they would never have grown to be such a superpower, as their age is relatively young.
It is time we change our mindset. And the first step is to get rid of the thinking that we owe BN/UMNO our livelihood and our unquestioned support. There are more ills that BN/UMNO has infected us with, than what we have actually benefited from. If given the same 'unquestioned support' as we had given to BN/UMNO, how do we know that someone else, whether it is PR or others, would not have achieved even more?? It is not a Malay against non-Malays issue. It is aspirations of the rakyat against the will of BN/UMNO.
